Extended Right Hemicolectomy for a large distal transverse colon Tumour

We recently performed a Laparoscopic extended right hemicolectomy for large distal colon tumour. A 58 year old patient presented with altered bowel habits and near total obstruction of colon due to a large distal transverse colon tumour.

The Video demonstrates all steps of extended right hemicolectomy includingTaking down of the gastrocolic omentum, Splenic flexure mobilisation, hepatic flexure mobilisation, taking down of the ileocolic pedicle and taking down of the middle colic pedicle at the root of the mesentry.

Patient had an uneventful recovery and went home on D3 after surgery. Histology showed T3 adenocarcinoma of the distal transverse colon with only reactive mesenteric lymph nodes. All margins were clear of the tumour. Patient was referred to the oncology team for followup.
